Shillong: The United Democratic Party has officially launched its campaign for the upcoming Lok Sabha by-election. The party is moving forward with internal preparations while it waits for a signal of support from its long-term partner, the Hill State People’s Democratic Party.
UDP president Metbah Lyngdoh confirmed that the party has not received any formal communication from the HSPDP. Although both parties operate under the Regional Democratic Alliance, their typical coordination for electoral strategy remains uncertain. Lyngdoh said the party is open to support from any individual or political group.
Current campaign efforts focus on internal meetings with party leaders and workers rather than public outreach. This strategy follows the lack of an official election schedule from the Election Commission. The party is also closely tracking the ongoing special intensive revision of electoral rolls.
Reflecting on the party's position, Lyngdoh stated that the "UDP candidate is the strongest contender" and noted a rising public desire for change. The party intends to ramp up its public campaigning as soon as the official election dates are released.
