Union Rushes Aid to Truckers Trapped on Manipur Highway

Imphal: The Sadar Hills Inland Transporters and Drivers Union (SHITDU) delivered emergency food and water to truckers stuck for days on National Highway 2. Dozens of drivers remain immobilized between two opposing protest sites. They have no sanitation or food.

A Liangmei Naga group has maintained an economic blockade for months near Namduilong-Kanglatongbi. Meanwhile, Kuki-Zo organizations hold a round-the-clock agitation at the Gamgiphai Buffer Zone. The truckers are caught in the middle. Conditions are dire. One driver said, "There is no toilet even for nature's call. We sincerely appeal to the Government to ensure our safe passage at the earliest."

While the state government moved some drivers toward Imphal, many remain trapped. SHITDU stepped in despite the location falling outside their normal area. Union spokesperson Lenpu Chongloi argued that transport workers should never be abandoned during a standoff. He noted, "We rushed to them because humanity comes first."

The union plans to continue aid efforts until the road clears. They want the government to end the impasse immediately. Transport workers keep supply chains running. They should not pay the price for local conflicts.
