Itanagar: Union Ministers Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Kiren Rijiju surveyed flood-ravaged Keyi Panyor on Tuesday. They took to the air and the ground to inspect the destruction left by a week of heavy rain. Flash floods and landslides have crippled the region. Four people are dead. Twenty-one others have injuries, while two more remain missing.
Infrastructure took a heavy hit. Homes, roads, and bridges sit in ruins across the state. Chouhan promised that the federal government will provide full support for relief and reconstruction. Rescue crews are still working to clear paths and stabilize the area.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu joined the ministers to oversee the response alongside local officials. They visited residents in Boying village to hear their concerns. Khandu issued a strict mandate to local leaders to stay on the front lines. "Our immediate priority is clear: all Deputy Commissioners must remain on the ground, quickly assess the damage, restore disrupted connectivity, ensure uninterrupted supply of essential commodities, and accelerate rescue, relief, recovery, and restoration efforts."
The state remains in recovery mode. Local authorities continue to track the damage while pushing to restore power and food supplies. Disaster management teams keep working in the hardest-hit districts.
