Shillong: Vivanstone G Kharngapkynta is ready to die for Meghalaya. The United Democratic Party candidate wants the state to keep control of its own natural resources. He made the promise at a public meeting held at BIDS Hall in Nongthymmai this Saturday.
Kharngapkynta told the crowd that Meghalaya needs a fighter in New Delhi. He said the state must protect its land and mineral wealth from outside interference. Tribal communities need someone to defend their constitutional safeguards on the national stage. If he gets to Parliament, he promises to be that voice.
"If elected to Parliament, I will raise my voice for the people of Meghalaya and defend their rights. I am prepared to make every sacrifice, even to the extent of laying down my life, if that is what it takes to protect the jaidbynriew and safeguard the interests of the state," he said.
Top UDP brass turned out for the pitch. Party president Metbah Lyngdoh and general secretary Titosstarwell Chyne joined several MLAs to back the candidate. Chyne urged parties to skip the petty mudslinging. He wants the campaign to stick to jobs and development instead of cheap attacks.
Lyngdoh insisted that Meghalaya needs more than just a name in a seat. He wants a representative who can actually win debates and push local interests. The party says Kharngapkynta has the grit to get it done.
