Two NSCN-K Insurgents Surrender to Assam Rifles in Arunachal Pradesh

Imphal: Two insurgents from the NSCN-K Nikki Sumi faction turned themselves in on June 28. They walked into the hands of the Assam Rifles and Tirap Police in the Kheti area of Arunachal Pradesh. The surrender ends their time in the bush.

The men handed over two pistols and a stash of live ammunition. They gave up the fight voluntarily. Officials confirmed the fighters are now in custody to wrap up the necessary legal paperwork and start rehabilitation. The Ministry of Defence noted that this move stems from successful outreach programs designed to pull rebels into the mainstream.

Security forces maintain that these operations work. A recent official statement noted the surrender "reflects the continued success of coordinated outreach initiatives undertaken by the Assam Rifles to encourage insurgents to renounce violence and return to the mainstream." The region remains a focus for authorities working to dampen local unrest.
