Agartala: Two college students drowned late Sunday at the Ichhalichhara Switch Gate in Dhalabil, Khowai. Mandeep Pal and Bhishma Das Choudhury, both 20, slipped into deep water while bathing and filming videos on their mobile phones.
They were joined by three companions at the stream. The pair lost their footing and could not get back out. Their friends could not save them. The incident happened fast.
Recovery teams pulled the bodies from the water later that day. Doctors at the nearby hospital declared them brought dead upon arrival. Mandeep Pal lived in Dhalabil Deolia Tilla and Bhishma Das Choudhury resided in Bankar.
The local community is mourning the loss of the two men. Residents remembered them as cheerful youths. Firefighters responded to the scene and issued a warning to the public. They told young people to stay alert near water. Firefighters stated, "recreational outings must prioritize safety."
