Kohima: The Tuensang District Planning and Development Board held its monthly meeting on June 8 at the Deputy Commissioner's conference hall. Presided over by Deputy Commissioner Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa, the session focused on project oversight, administrative updates, and pressing public safety concerns.
Board members formally recommended the registration of two local organizations, the Leap of Faith Foundation and the Mt. Sinai Development Society. The meeting also served as a venue for welcoming new officials, including SDO Saku Chingmak, DAO Alem Yanger, and Land Resource DPO Lipichem.
Waste management took center stage as the board discussed the Solid Waste Management Rules 2026. H. Berimong, the Additional Deputy Commissioner, instructed members on the necessity of segregating household waste into wet, dry, sanitary, and special care categories. Expanding on this theme, the chairman encouraged all local departments to minimize plastic use and improve office waste management practices.
The Public Health Engineering Department provided updates on the ongoing progress of the Jal Jeevan Mission and the Swachh Bharat Mission. Following these updates, SDPO Dr. Akash Sinha delivered a stark warning regarding the increase in regional digital threats. He cautioned that cyber criminals are actively exploiting residents through various methods, noting that officials must remain vigilant against "financial frauds such as Ponzi schemes, online exchanges, lottery scams, cryptocurrency fraud, hacking and digital arrest."
Beyond financial scams, the board reviewed a broad spectrum of digital risks including cyber bullying, sextortion, and the spread of fake news. The session emphasized the need for increased public awareness to combat these evolving security challenges within the district.
