Kohima: Cyber-related financial fraud has surged in Tuensang, with victims losing more than Rs 11.33 crore since 2022. Officials from the Office of the Superintendent of Police presented these findings during the monthly District Planning and Development Board meeting held on June 8 under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa.

SDPO Dr. Akash Sinha detailed the various forms of digital crime impacting the region. These threats range from Ponzi schemes, cryptocurrency fraud, and online lottery scams to social media issues such as cyberbullying and impersonation. Law enforcement authorities underscored the necessity of urgent, widespread public awareness campaigns across all age groups to improve digital safety and curb these mounting financial losses.

Waste management also took center stage during the meeting. The Deputy Commissioner urged all government departments to lead by example by adopting waste segregation practices in their offices. ADC H. Berimong explained that, under the Solid Waste Management Rules 2026, residents must separate waste into wet, dry, sanitary, and special care categories at the household level.

The Public Health Engineering Department provided an update on the progress of national development initiatives within the district. Representing the department, Er. Chingting detailed the ongoing work of the Jal Jeevan Mission, which aims to provide safe tap water to every rural household. She noted that the initiative, known as "Har Ghar Jal," remains a critical priority that is expected to continue until 2028 alongside the Swachh Bharat Mission's efforts to ensure sanitation and waste management in rural areas.
