Kohima: Tseminyu residents must now visit the Deputy Commissioner office to secure Legal Heir Certificates. Japheth Woch confirmed the documents are required for processing pension claims, salary arrears, insurance, and gratuity payouts. The process starts with a twenty rupee form available at the office.
Applicants pay fifty rupees once the certificate is issued. Eligible heirs include spouses, children, grandchildren, and siblings. The office recognizes second wives only if the previous marriage ended via divorce or death. As the notice states, "illegitimate children are entitled to all property rights of the deceased parent and are considered legal heirs of the deceased."
Daughters hold equal inheritance rights as sons under a 2005 Supreme Court ruling. Claimants must provide a signed form, death certificates, and birth proofs for all heirs. Accepted identity documents include Aadhaar cards, voter IDs, passports, or driving licenses. Proof of address can be established through bank passbooks, utility bills, or government IDs. Submit all paperwork to the Tseminyu district office to finish the application.
