Agartala: Tripura University is abandoning traditional degree-focused models for a research-heavy future. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Debabrata Das unveiled the plan at the Maharaja Bir Bikram Auditorium. He wants high-quality papers and competitive grants. The school will push for patents and technology transfer.
Artificial intelligence, machine learning, and biotechnology sit at the top of the agenda. The school also targets climate change, cyber security, and data analytics. Leaders want research that serves the Northeast. Teams will study biodiversity, water management, and sustainable agriculture. They plan to catalog indigenous healthcare and local traditions through a scientific lens.
Das took the helm last month as the 11th permanent Vice-Chancellor. He faces a five-year term. The post sat empty for nearly a year. He told the crowd, "Universities do not merely prepare for the future; they create the future." He believes teachers must act as mentors and innovators.
The university plans to partner with IITs, IISc, and industry start-ups. These deals will bolster student exchanges and joint publications. The Central Library will become a digital research hub. Tripura Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu pushed for faster hiring of vacant staff. The goal is to build a developed India by 2047.
