Agartala: Tripura is set to establish its first government Ayurvedic medical college and hospital following approval from the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine. The new institution, located in Udaipur within the Gomati district, received the green light under the Ministry of AYUSH to begin operations during the 2026-27 academic session.
Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha announced the development on social media, confirming that the college will offer 60 seats to students. Highlighting the significance of this milestone, Dr. Saha shared his enthusiasm for the project and expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his continued support of medical education.
"I am delighted to share that the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine under the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, has accepted our application for the establishment of the Tripura Government Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital at Udaipur with an intake capacity of 60 seats from the academic session 2026-27," Dr. Saha stated.
State officials believe this facility will become a vital center for research and healthcare in the northeastern region. By integrating traditional medicine into the broader healthcare framework, the government aims to enhance medical services while creating new academic opportunities for students across the state.
