Agartala: Tripura officials have until September 30 to fix the state's broken road network. PWD Secretary Kiran Gitte announced the deadline on August 10 following a high-level review led by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha. The Chief Minister ordered strict quality control at an August 8 meeting held in the TIFT War Room in Agartala. Officials must clear all maintenance tasks before Durga Puja begins.
Heavy rains starting in March chewed up the roads. This weather caused potholes to pop up everywhere. Gitte confirmed the government has enough cash to finish the job. He stated, "The state government remains committed to improving road infrastructure and ensuring smooth connectivity for residents ahead of the festive season."
The massive repair operation covers 1,157 total roads spanning 2,664 kilometers. The PWD (R&B) division will handle 1,006 roads covering 1,622 kilometers, while PWD (PMGSY) manages 119 roads over 665 kilometers. Additionally, PWD (NH) has targeted 32 roads totaling 377 kilometers.
NHIDCL crews are currently working on a 16-kilometer stretch of NH-08 between Champaknagar and the Nalgaria Railway Bridge. PWD (R&B) will take over the stretch from the bridge to ISBT Chandrapur. Other active projects include work on NH-108B from Khowai to Agartala, NH-208 from Khowai to Kailashahar, and the 105.9-kilometer route on NH-08 between Churaibari and Agartala.
Engineers from the junior to superintending level must visit sites frequently to inspect progress. Crews must prioritize routes linked to district and sub-divisional headquarters, hospitals, bus stands, railway stations, and major puja pandals.
