Agartala: Tripura officials are rolling out the red carpet for Asmita Dey. The history-making judoka clinched gold at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, becoming the first Indian to ever hit that mark. She arrives for a two-day homecoming on August 12. Youth Affairs and Sports Director L Darlong confirmed the state will host a major felicitation at Rabindra Bhavan in Agartala.
Chief Minister Manik Saha already met Dey in New Delhi to offer praise, joined by Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Tinku Roy. After the Agartala event, the athlete heads south. She plans to visit her family home in Dakshin Sonaichari, located within the Belonia subdivision of South Tripura.
The trip serves as a personal pilgrimage. Dey intends to pay her respects to her late father, the man who ignited her drive to compete. Her mother, Munna Pathari Dey, says the family focus has already shifted to the global stage. "The family's next dream is to see Asmita win a medal at the Olympic Games," said her mother.
