Agartala: Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath credited India's rise as a global agricultural powerhouse to sustained government support and a shift toward natural farming. Speaking at a workshop in Aralia, Nath stated that the nation has moved from importing food grains to leading the world in the production of paddy, milk, spices, and various cash crops including cotton and millet.

Nath linked the agricultural transformation to the leadership of Narendra Modi, noting that India has advanced from the 11th to the 4th largest economy over the last 12 years. He emphasized the importance of self-reliance, saying, "Agriculture remains the backbone of the nation." The minister added that the government intends to propel the country toward becoming the world's leading economy by 2047.

Regional progress in Tripura remains a central focus of these efforts. Nath reported that the state's per capita income climbed from ₹1.40 lakh in 2018 to ₹1.92 lakh today, with targets to reach nearly ₹20 lakh by 2047. Efforts to expand the cultivation of onions, oilseeds, and mangoes are currently underway to bolster rural livelihoods.

The event was held as part of the month-long Khet Bachao Abhiyan, which runs through June 30. Other attendees included Deputy Mayor Manika Das Datta, social worker Sampa Das, and various officials from the Agriculture Department.
