Agartala: Tripura is moving to close its milk supply gap. Rising demand has left local production falling short of state needs. Animal Resources Development Department Minister Sudhangshu Das confirmed the plan on Wednesday, September 30, following a board meeting of the Gomati Cooperative Milk Union.

The state signed a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding recently with the ARDD, the Gomati Cooperative Milk Union, and the National Dairy Development Board. This deal brings in the NDDB to provide technical expertise and support for processing and output. The board meeting, which included the union chairman and the head of NDDB North Eastern operations, focused on building a roadmap to expand supplies.

Minister Das emphasized the need for federal assistance and specialized guidance. "The main objective is to increase the production of milk and milk-based products in Tripura. The demand for milk in the state is higher than the present level of production, so efforts are being made to increase production," Das said. Officials will now review stakeholder suggestions to finalize plans for better dairy availability across the region.
