Agartala: Tripura government officials have moved closer to establishing a new medical college in the Jolaibari Assembly constituency. Minister for PTG and Minority Welfare, Shuklacharan Noatia, led a delegation on Monday to evaluate two potential locations for the project, which aims to bolster healthcare infrastructure across South Tripura.

The inspection team assessed a site near the Debdaru Primary Health Centre and a former Horticulture Department orchard in the Kalsi area. The project falls under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram, a central assistance program. The delegation included key officials, such as District Magistrate Muhammad Sajjad P., Chief Medical Officer Dr. Jyotirmoy Das, and representatives from the Minority Welfare Department and local steering committees.

Minister Noatia emphasized that finalizing a site quickly is essential to move the project forward. He stated, "A medical college in Jolaibari will not only improve healthcare facilities for the people of South Tripura but will also contribute significantly to education, employment generation, connectivity and economic development in the region."

Local residents anticipate that the facility will provide better access to advanced medical care and serve as a transformative development for the region. Officials expect the college to enhance medical education and boost the economic outlook of the constituency as the proposal shifts from planning toward implementation.
