Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha announced on Sunday that the state has successfully transferred over Rs 529 crore directly to farmers through government paddy procurement initiatives. Speaking at the Tripura State Agriculture Research Centre in Arundhatinagar, Saha emphasized that bolstering the economic status of the agricultural sector remains a primary objective for his administration.

During the event, which marked the distribution of the 23rd instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi, the Chief Minister underscored the vital link between rural prosperity and state progress. He stated, "If farmers' income increases, villages will develop. If villages develop, the state develops."

Saha noted that historic financial burdens often forced farmers into debt, necessitating the rollout of various central and state-level support programs. Beyond procurement, the government has provided agricultural inputs worth Rs 233.63 crore through subsidies and distributed over 2.53 lakh soil health cards to improve farming yields.

Financial support under the PM-KISAN scheme continues to expand in the state. While 1.51 lakh farmers received Rs 30.37 crore in the 2018-19 period, projections for the current financial year suggest that more than 2.16 lakh farmers will benefit from over Rs 43.32 crore in funding. Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath also attended the proceedings to support the ongoing development efforts.
