Tripura Anti-Drug Campaign Uses Street Theatre to Reach Public

Agartala: A district-wide push against substance abuse is gaining momentum in Khowai, Tripura. Residents are flocking to street plays and meetings staged under the slogan Say No to Drugs, Yes to Life. The Voluntary Health Association of Tripura leads the effort with backing from the District Social Welfare and Social Education Department as part of Nasha Mukti Week.

Performers hit six blocks plus the Khowai and Teliamura municipal areas. They set up in busy marketplaces, weekly haats, road junctions, and schools. These plays show how addiction ruins families and wastes young lives. They push the crowd to choose a better path. The response is intense. Many attendees took an official anti-drug oath during the gatherings.

The events attract commuters, traders, women, and youth. Organizers claim that police work is not enough to stop the local narcotics trade. They believe art changes minds. As the organizers stated: "Cultural interventions like street theatre reach directly into the hearts of people. Awareness is the strongest weapon against addiction."

The campaign reaches into remote parts of the district. Organizers believe these sustained local efforts will eventually build a secure, drug-free society.
