Kohima: Tribal women bodies in Kohima have scheduled a peaceful public rally for June 19 to demand justice and transparency in an ongoing sexual harassment case involving IDAN officer Reny Wilfred. Organizers believe that perceived delays in the legal proceedings have sparked significant concern among the community regarding the accountability of the justice system.
The demonstration will begin at 10 a.m. at the Old MLA Hostel Junction. Participants plan to march toward Raj Bhavan, where they intend to submit a formal memorandum to the governor. The action committee convenor Neithono R. Sothu and member secretary Atono Kense stated that the event is designed as a collective push for safety and dignity. They emphasized that the "proposed rally was not directed against any individual or institution but was intended as a collective call for justice, accountability and the protection of women and children."
Organizers are asking churches, civil society groups, and citizens to join the event in traditional attire to represent unity. The Angami Students’ Union has officially backed the call, urging its members and the public to rise above tribal boundaries to support the cause. Union leaders Diezevisie Nakhro and Rajuselie Chücha noted that harassment goes against the moral standards of Naga society and requires a unified defense of workplace safety.
Participants have been asked to remain disciplined throughout the march to ensure the protest stays peaceful and respectful. By gathering in large numbers, supporters hope to send a clear message that the safety of women and children remains a non-negotiable priority for the community.
