Imphal: The Committee on Tribal Unity handed a memorandum to Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla demanding an end to an unconstitutional blockade of livelihood in Kangpokpi district. Essential goods like food and medicine have failed to reach residents for over a month. Supply routes from Imphal and Dimapur remain choked by roadblocks. The committee warns that these shortages hurt nearly 1.95 lakh people including Kuki-Zo, Gorkha, Poumei, and Thangal communities.

CoTU wants roadblocks cleared at Namdilong-Kanglatongbi, Chawangkining, Taphou Naga, and Yaingangpokpi. They claim repeated pleas to local authorities went ignored. The group told the Governor that these actions are essential for restoring stability. They specifically urged him to take action to end the current crisis affecting the district.

Law and order issues persist due to messy police jurisdictions between Kangpokpi and neighboring districts. CoTU wants police outposts upgraded to full stations and asks for full policing powers at Kangchup and Leimakhong. They also demanded the state crackdown on the NSCN insurgent group and restrict its territorial reach. The committee further accused the Shanni Nationalities Army and NSCN Eastern Flank of backing local volunteers during the ongoing regional conflict.
