Toiching remains the only recognised village without power in Longleng

Kohima: Toiching Village is currently the only officially recognised village in the Longleng district that lacks access to electricity. The District Planning and Development Board received this update on June 10, highlighting a significant gap in the region's rural development since the village received official recognition in 2025.

During the meeting, SDO (Electrical) Moiching Shembu noted that the existing power infrastructure across the district is struggling to keep pace with rapid urban growth. He emphasized that the rising demand for electricity near Longleng town requires immediate attention, calling for the augmentation of current systems. Shembu stated, "The existing power infrastructure is under strain and requires augmentation and upgradation to meet current and future requirements."

The discussion also focused on the need for new transformers and additional low-tension lines in specific areas. Officials identified the EAC Yachem office, the Community Health Centre, and the Ayushman Hospital as sites requiring urgent improvements to ensure reliable service.

To address these concerns, the board plans to invite the Executive Engineer from the Transmission Division in Mokokchung to the next meeting. This official will be tasked with presenting a comprehensive report on the district power situation and specific infrastructure needs.
