Guwahati: The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has officially taken control of 10.33 acres of land in the Sonapur Circle of Assam’s Kamrup district. This acquisition marks a major milestone in the organization's nationwide initiative to construct Sri Venkateswara Swamy temples in every state capital, ensuring that devotees outside Andhra Pradesh have easier access to religious services.
The Metropolitan Deputy Commissioner formally handed over the land possession certificate to TTD officials on Tuesday. TTD Chairman B R Naidu confirmed that preparations for construction are moving forward, with a formal Bhoomi Puja ceremony expected to take place in the near future. "TTD has officially taken possession of 10.33 acres of land allotted by the Assam Government for the construction of a Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Guwahati," the organization stated.
This project gained momentum following high-level discussions between Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Situated in Amerigog village, the site provides a serene location between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. Officials believe the temple will serve as a significant spiritual destination for worshippers in the Northeast and strengthen cultural connections between the two regions.
Beyond providing a local place of worship, the initiative aims to reduce the need for devotees to travel long distances to Tirupati. TTD plans to release further details concerning the temple’s design, budget, and construction timeline in the coming months.
