Guwahati: Jorhat MP Gaurav Gogoi hit the press in Delhi on August 3. He wants Home Minister Amit Shah to answer for the treatment of student protesters in states controlled by the BJP. The Congress party expects a full explanation on the floor of Parliament.

Gogoi claims the central government operates with a clear political grudge. He rejects the notion that the issue is settled. "While Prime Minister Narendra Modi may have 'forgiven' some students through his Instagram, the youth of the country have not yet forgiven the Union Home Minister," Gogoi said.

The legislator pushed for a formal statement regarding the conduct of state agencies. He raised alarms about how authorities treat young women. Gogoi pointed to targeted harassment campaigns against girls and minors. He demanded to know if police will file FIRs against those spreading abuse online. For now, the Opposition maintains that the state is weaponizing its power against students.
