Guwahati: Tinsukia district is now updating voter rolls for the upcoming Sonowal Kachari Autonomous Council elections. The Assam State Election Commission launched the process under the 2010 election rules. Officials set January 1, 2026, as the cutoff date for voter eligibility.

Six constituencies fall under this update: Sadiya, Chabua, Dangari, Dirak Chumoni, Tinsukia, and Burhi Dihing. Delimitation rules mean that only the "Sonowal part" of villages will make it onto the final list. Electoral Registration Officers are now syncing the council rolls from November 2025 with the latest Assembly records from February 2026.

Staff started preliminary work on June 23. This phase runs until June 28. The main revision effort finishes by July 9, setting the stage for a July 10 draft publication. Voters have until July 25 to file claims or lodge objections. Officials plan to clear all disputes by August 1.

The final roll drops on August 3. The district administration told the public to check their status once the draft arrives. They want people to fix errors or add names immediately to ensure they can vote in the 2026 polls.
