Guwahati: Residents and students in Tinsukia are fighting against persistent public urination near the Budding Buds Senior Secondary School on D.M. Lohia Road. The practice has created unhygienic conditions and a foul odor that forces pedestrians, especially women and female students, to cover their faces when passing through the area.
To combat the nuisance, the Tinsukia Municipal Board installed two mirrors at the site. The strategy relies on the psychological effect of self-reflection to discourage individuals from using the lane as a restroom. While residents report some improvement since the installation, the problem has not been completely eradicated as some people still utilize isolated moments to urinate in the space.
Local community members are now calling for more comprehensive solutions to ensure the area remains clean. Their requests include stricter monitoring, improved public sanitation awareness programs, and more robust civic enforcement to permanently address the health and hygiene concerns surrounding the school.
