Three Die After Inhaling Toxic Gas in Assam Septic Tank Incident

Guwahati: Three people, including an Indian Army soldier, died after inhaling toxic gas inside a septic tank in the Goalpara district of Assam on May 29. The victims were identified as the homeowner and soldier Jochok Rabha, along with masons Krishna Rai and Dilip Das.

The incident began when the soldiers home on leave hired workers to clean a newly constructed toilet tank. One mason entered the enclosure and lost consciousness from the buildup of poisonous gas. A second mason entered the tank to assist his colleague but also collapsed. Rabha then entered the chamber in a desperate attempt to rescue them, but he too succumbed to the fumes.

A fourth individual, Bajpayee Rabha, attempted to reach the victims but soon struggled to breathe. Local residents heard his cries for help and pulled him from the tank before transporting him to Shaheed Nidhuram Rajbongshi Hospital. Officials report that he remains in critical condition. The deaths of the three men at the scene have left the local community in a state of shock.
