Kohima: Nagaland police arrested three men on Wednesday in connection with three separate sexual assault investigations, including attacks on an elderly woman and two minors. The most severe incident occurred in Kiphire, where a police officer allegedly raped an 87-year-old woman. Family members of the victim reported that the incident took place at the victim's home during the morning hours.
According to the victim's nephew, a medical examination confirmed the assault. He noted a discrepancy regarding the victim's age, explaining that although she is 87, a documentation error on her Aadhaar card lists her as 56. The nephew stated, "Family members claimed that police visited the scene shortly after the incident and collected relevant evidence."
In Kohima, authorities arrested a 34-year-old church youth leader for the alleged sexual assault of a 16-year-old girl. The case emerged after social media messages prompted an inquiry by the District Child Protection Unit and the Child Welfare Committee. Police registered a suo motu FIR and charged the suspect under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. He remains in judicial custody.
A third arrest involved a 29-year-old truck driver from Assam, who was taken into custody in the Niuland district. The man is accused of raping a 15-year-old girl from Kohima. Police initiated the case with a Zero FIR before transferring it for formal investigation. Officials confirmed that investigations into all three cases are currently ongoing.
