Imphal: Horticulture officials in Thoubal ran a two-day training course for local farmers. They met at the District Office on June 29 and 30 to learn about better growing methods. A third session followed on July 3 at the Kakching Municipal Council Hall. More than 100 people showed up each day to get schooled on scientific farming.
Experts from the College of Agriculture and Krishi Vigyan Kendra led the technical sessions. They covered everything from pest control to nutrient management. They also taught the group how to add value to their crops after harvest. The sessions turned into a lively back-and-forth between the growers and the researchers.
The department wants to push sustainable practices across the region. Farmers asked questions and swapped tips during the meetings. The project officer noted that these events help build skills across the state. Participants liked the hands-on approach and said they want to change how they work. The officer added that they are committed to these efforts, stating that the department aims for "strengthening the horticulture sector through continuous capacity-building programmes and dissemination of improved technologies for the benefit of farmers under the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture."
