Imphal: The Thadou Baptist Association India (TBAI) is calling for a formal investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation or the National Investigation Agency following a fatal attack on its leadership. The ambush occurred on May 13 near Saheibung Peak, located between Kotlen and Kotzim villages in the Kangpokpi district of Manipur. The victims were travelling in two official association vehicles after attending a United Baptist Churches Council meeting in Churachandpur.

The assault resulted in the deaths of TBAI President Rev. Dr. Vumthang Sitlhou, Finance Secretary Rev. Kaigoulun Lhouvum, and Superintendent Pastor Paogoulen Sitlhou. Several others, including TBAI Executive Secretary Rev. SM Haopu and Pastor Rev. Kaikhothang Singsit, as well as two drivers, sustained injuries. Another religious leader, Rev. Hekai Simte, reportedly survived the encounter without injury.

Describing the incident as an act of terror, the TBAI emphasized that the targeted vehicles were clearly marked. The association maintained that the victims were dedicated to church service rather than socio-political affairs, labelling the event an assault on religious freedom. Beyond the demand for a federal probe, the organization has requested government support for medical treatment and compensation for the bereaved families.
