Kohima: Tenyimi Union Nagaland held its first annual general session at Badze, Meriema, this Tuesday. The event focused on tribal cohesion and collective responsibility for the future of Naga society. Power minister KG Kenye addressed the crowd. He insisted that the Tenyimi identity must remain secondary to the broader Naga identity.
Kenye explained that the union serves as a unique platform for the five Tenyimi tribes living in Nagaland: the Zeliang, Rengma, Pochury, Chakhesang, and Angami. The organization aims to navigate state-specific administrative challenges. He warned the group to stay grounded. Kenye stated, "Tenyimi people were first and foremost Nagas and that the identity of Tenyimi community should never be placed above the larger Naga identity."
The union explicitly distanced itself from political posturing. Minister Salhoutuonuo Kruse praised the group for its shared ancestry and blood ties. She urged members to teach the next generation to value compassion and service.
The session ended with four key resolutions. The union condemned the killing of six Nagas in Manipur and called for the immediate arrest of the attackers. They also demanded swift justice for crimes against women and children. The body pledged support for the Ura Academy to expand the Tenyidie language. Finally, the group named a new slate of officers to lead from 2026 to 2029, with KT Vilie serving as president.
