Itanagar: A clash broke out at Naharlagun Railway Station in Arunachal Pradesh as local union members faced off with contractors over labor disputes. The fight erupted when the All Arunachal Pradesh Railway Construction Loading and Unloading Workers Union inspected how parcel work was being handled. Tensions flared between the union and tender owners Kipa Amosh and Kipa Vivek.
Police from the Papu Hill station rushed to the tracks to stop the violence. Officer-in-Charge Torun Mai confirmed that officers successfully separated the groups. No one ended up in handcuffs or the hospital.
The union claims the station contractors are ignoring rules about local hiring and Inner Line Permit requirements. Union president Sampa Rebe argues that indigenous youth should get priority for these jobs. Rebe stated, "The union's objective is to promote employment opportunities for indigenous youth in railway-related work amid rising unemployment in the state."
The union also wants tighter security at this entry point. They demand that contractors properly verify and register every worker handling luggage. Police are currently mediating between the two sides to keep the peace and prevent another brawl.
