Suspected Toxic Plates Sickens Guests at Assam Memorial Feast

Guwahati: A memorial feast in Assam’s Nagaon district turned into a medical crisis. Guests gathered at Chutia Gaon to honor the late Dhanti Bora during his first death anniversary. The food quickly became inedible. Approximately 200 guests attended the ceremony before the trouble started.

Food served on disposable plastic plates tasted bitter. Guests who managed to eat fell ill. Panic rippled through the crowd as the family discarded large amounts of spoiled food. Locals pointed the finger at a specific shop in Naba Bazar. They suspect chemicals from the cheap plastic contaminated the meal.

The family plans to report the shop owner to the Itachali Police Outpost. This incident has raised alarms about the safety of disposable products in local markets. Villagers want answers. Authorities must determine if the items met safety standards or if they caused the sickness. One family member stated, "The unexpected incident has left the bereaved family deeply distressed, as the feast was organised as part of an important religious ritual for devotees and community members."
