Imphal: Armed militants crossed the Indo-Myanmar border on Wednesday and torched 12 houses and a local market in Kongkan Thana. The attack hit the remote Kamjong district in Manipur. It left residents shaken. Authorities believe suspected cadres of the Kuki National Army-Burma carried out the raid.

Phungyar MLA Leishiyo Keishing slammed the lack of protection for border communities. He pointed to an Assam Rifles post located just three kilometres from the scene of the fire. The proximity of this camp to such a brazen assault raised major red flags.

Keishing demanded the state send neutral forces like the India Reserve Battalion to guard the area. He argued that poor roads and isolated geography make these villages easy targets for groups operating out of Myanmar. Communication remains slow and reinforcements struggle to arrive on time. The MLA noted, "Tangkhul villages along the Indo-Myanmar border, including Kongkan Thana, are vulnerable border areas due to their sparse population, poor road connectivity, and proximity to armed groups operating across the Myanmar border."

This incident follows a string of recent violence in Namlee, Wanglee, and Choro. Locals fear for their safety as incursions continue. Security agencies have started combing operations in the area. The government faces mounting pressure to secure the border line and restore order.
