Imphal: At least 17 homes went up in flames today near the Indo-Myanmar border in Manipur's Kamjong district. The Naga Village Guard reported the damage is likely higher, estimating 25 homes were destroyed during the afternoon attack at Huimine Thana. Armed men crossed the Namya River to target the settlements. Locals fled as the fires spread.

The Naga Village Guard blamed Kuki militants for the violence. They claim the attackers worked alongside the Kuki National Army-Burma to displace residents. The group stated, "In a strategic plan maneuvered by Kuki militants in collusion with the Kuki National Army-Burma (KNA-B), Phaimol—a Kuki village under Kamjong sub-division—was deliberately set on fire to establish a pretext for a pre-planned attack on two Tangkhul Naga settlements, namely Huimine Thana and Kherongram, a hamlet of Nampisha village, along the Indo-Myanmar border on 1 July 2026."

Preliminary reports show the blaze destroyed homes belonging to both the Burmese and Naga communities. Around 20 camps housing 365 Burmese refugees were also razed. Police and security forces scrambled to the area to start rescue operations. The attack happened near posts held by the Assam Rifles, Border Security Force, and the Indian Reserve Battalion.

Naga leaders urged villagers along the border to stay alert. They claim the offensive aims to seize ancestral land. Tensions remain high in the region.
