Itanagar: Support for the proposed Siang Upper Multipurpose Project continues to rise as additional households in Arunachal Pradesh formally agree to the pre-feasibility report survey. In Upper Siang district, 12 families from Ramsing village submitted their consent papers on Wednesday, bringing the total number of supporting households in that village to 31 out of 60. Deputy Commissioner Talo Jerang received the documents and noted that this cooperation is a positive step toward regional development.

A similar trend is unfolding in the neighboring Siang district, where 18 households from Begging village signed the memorandum of understanding on Tuesday. This addition brings the total number of supporters in the village to 54. District officials, including Deputy Commissioner Tayi Taggu, have been actively leading consultations to encourage this community involvement.

The Siang Upper Multipurpose Project aims to transform the region by generating hydropower and creating infrastructure. Supporters anticipate that the initiative will provide steady employment for local youths and improve overall economic conditions. While the administration emphasizes these benefits, stakeholders also maintain that the project must include robust environmental safeguards and proper rehabilitation measures to protect the cultural and ecological heritage of local indigenous communities.
