Student Union Demands Justice After Fatal Attack on Assam Leader

Guwahati: The Kaliabor Regional Students' Union held a memorial service on Monday evening to honor the life of Madhurjya Barman, an assistant general secretary for the West Nalbari Regional Students' Union. The 19-year-old student leader was killed in an attack in the Nalbari district on May 30.

Barman was riding a scooter with 18-year-old Mridumudra Deka near Gangapur when they were ambushed while returning home from Nalbari town. Barman died at the scene, while Deka remains in critical condition within the intensive care unit at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital. Local authorities discovered the pair on the roadside suffering from multiple injuries.

The incident sparked significant public outcry across Assam. While some social groups have speculated about potential motives, the police have not yet confirmed these claims. Following an intensive search operation in Mukalmua, police reported that the primary suspect, Roz Ali, was killed during an encounter.

Law enforcement officials state that the investigation is active as they work to piece together the sequence of events and clarify the motive for the violence. Members of the Kaliabor union continue to demand accountability while offering their support to Barman's family.
