Shillong: The district administration of South West Garo Hills in Meghalaya has banned all heavy vehicles from traveling on the Tarapara stretch of the Garobadha-Dalu Road. District Magistrate Kum. Anendya Raajsshre issued the order under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, following reports from the Public Works Department in Ampati that the road infrastructure has deteriorated significantly.

Multiple heavy vehicles have recently become stuck on this portion of the route, which has caused traffic delays and exacerbated the damage to the road surface. Officials stated the restriction is necessary to ensure public safety and prevent further structural collapse. The order took effect on June 12 and will remain active until the PWD confirms the road is safe for heavy transit.

Authorities have requested that transport operators and local residents follow these guidelines to avoid potential legal consequences. According to officials, the restriction will remain in force "until the PWD (Roads), Ampati Division certifies that the road is safe and fit for the movement of heavy vehicles."
