Sohra Police Station Ranked Among India's Top Six

Shillong: Sohra Police Station hit the national stage. It ranked sixth among the best police stations in India for 2025. This makes it the top-performing station in Meghalaya. The station stands as the oldest in the state, dating back to 1885.

DGP Idashisha Nongrang handed the award to City SP Dangsan Khyriem on Tuesday at Police Headquarters in Shillong. Other top officials joined the ceremony, including IGP Davis N.R. Marak, DIG Sylvester Nongtnger, and DIG Jubi G. Momin. The station endured a rigorous national assessment lasting several months.

East Khasi Hills SP Vivek Syiem said the ranking considers overall functioning rather than a single case. Officials graded the staff on everything from infrastructure to public feedback. Evaluators checked lock-up conditions, record management, and digital tools. They also scrutinized case disposal rates and crime prevention efforts. Syiem noted: "The ranking was based on overall functioning, not any single case."

East Khasi Hills oversees 15 different police stations. Leadership now plans to copy the Sohra model across the district. Reforms include updating patrol vehicles with new tech and renovating buildings to improve public access. Police will push for better communication and empathy to boost community trust.
