Guwahati: Police arrested six people during a raid at Majesty Manor in Hatigaon, Guwahati. The operation targeted an inter-state cyber fraud network. A team from Nagarbera Police led the charge. CDSP Boko-Chaygaon Jankishore Gogoi supervised the bust alongside SI Harjit Das and SI Dibyajyoti Rajbongshi.
Five of the suspects were already wanted for a prior cyber-fraud case. The accused include Safakat Ansari from Deoghar, Jharkhand, and local residents Ashik Mahabub Alom, Artful Islam, Jahidul Islam, Dhurbajyoti Bhuyan, and Jomir Mullah. Investigators traced the group using diaries and recovered statements. Police believe Ansari traveled to Assam to collect cash and gold from local handlers.
Officers seized a significant haul during the search. The inventory includes 12 mobile phones, various ATM and debit cards, a Hyundai i20, and a Pulsar NS400 motorcycle. They also took two gold rings bought just two days prior. Police are currently verifying the receipts for those rings. Digital evidence shows the group used voice messages and QR codes to coordinate illicit transfers across state lines.
Investigators are now parsing through banking data and identity documents to map the entire network. They want to identify everyone involved in the money trail. "Further investigation is underway," police said. The authorities intend to track down all account holders and beneficiaries linked to the seized cards and communication devices.

Authorities released additional details regarding the background of the six suspects. Ashik Mahabub Alom and Jahidul Islam are both from Tupmari village, while Artful Islam hails from Rangeshwari. Jomir Mullah is a resident of Dakshin Rangapani under Sontoli Police Station, and Dhurbajyoti Bhuyan lives in Bhetapara. The inventory of seized items also includes multiple PAN and Aadhaar cards.

In a separate incident at the Juria market, farmers intercepted traders accused of systematic theft. The farmers seized several electronic and computerized weighing scales after discovering their paddy and jute were being short-weighted by 3 to 4 kilograms per maund. Police eventually confiscated two of the scales, though local growers claim the regional weights and measures department has failed to conduct regular inspections of market equipment.
Meanwhile, in Doboka, authorities picked up Zaidul Alam from Nilbagan Sadar village. Alam sparked local outrage after posting a video filled with disparaging remarks about the late singer Zubeen Garg. Members of the Hojai district unit of the All Assam Minorities Students' Union tracked him down and turned him over to Murajhar police. He remains in custody for questioning while officials weigh further legal action based on a formal complaint from the student group.
