Guwahati: Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, the principal of Silchar Medical College, and his wife Sharmishtha Gupta are distancing themselves from a spa currently under police scrutiny. The couple confirms they own the building but denies any connection to the business operating inside. They claim the property was leased through a formal rental agreement.
The couple insists the contract specifically forbade any illegal activity. They had no idea what went on behind those doors. According to their statement, they ended the lease immediately after the allegations surfaced. The situation has taken a toll. "We are deeply embarrassed and distressed by the developments," the couple said.
The Guptas are now cooperating with investigators. They want a full, fair probe to clear their names and expose the facts. They maintain they are nothing more than landlords caught in a scandal.
