Sikkim Speaker Joins National Parliamentary Conference in Chandigarh

Gangtok: Sikkim Legislative Assembly Speaker Mingma Norbu Sherpa participated in the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association India Region Zone II Conference held in Chandigarh on June 8 and 9. The event, hosted by the Haryana Legislative Assembly, gathered presiding officers and lawmakers from 15 states to deliberate on the future of parliamentary governance.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla inaugurated the proceedings, joined by Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh and Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini. Before the sessions began, attendees were guests at a luncheon hosted by Haryana Governor Prof. Ashim Kumar Ghosh at Lok Bhawan.

The conference agenda focuses on the integration of artificial intelligence into legislative processes, the broader goal of Viksit Bharat 2047, and the responsibility of state bodies in nation-building. According to the organisers, the gathering aims to address "key issues including the role of legislatures in nation-building, the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, and the use of artificial intelligence in governance and legislative processes."

Beyond formal policy discussions, the program included a cultural component featuring a documentary on the history of Haryana. The plenary sessions concluded on June 9, marking the final stage of the two-day assembly.
