Gangtok: Residents in parts of Gangtok are facing power outages following a road accident on Saturday morning. At approximately 4:00 AM, a heavy truck veered off the road and fell into a gorge near the Indira Bye Pass, causing immediate damage to essential electrical infrastructure.

According to the Sikkim Power Department, the crash triggered the tripping of the 11 kV IBP local feeder. While officials managed to restore power to portions of the network through rapid circuit adjustments, several areas remain without electricity. Specifically, the Gandey Jhora 315 kVA sub-station, the Police Barrack 500 kVA sub-station, and the 33 kV Sichey to DPH line have been isolated to ensure safety.

Technical teams are currently on-site assessing the full extent of the wreckage. Department officials noted that they suspect the impact may have caused significant damage to underground cables in the immediate vicinity of the crash. Repair crews are prioritizing restoration efforts to bring power back to the Indira Bye Pass and Police Barrack localities as quickly as possible. The department has issued a formal apology to consumers for the ongoing disruption and is working to resolve the issue.
