Gangtok: Sikkim Member of Parliament Indra Hang Subba met with Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh at Kartavya Bhawan in New Delhi to discuss critical socio-political issues and infrastructure needs in the state. The meeting focused on the strategic importance of border connectivity and the resolution of long-standing constitutional demands for Sikkim's local communities.

Subba highlighted the recurring maintenance issues facing North Sikkim's road network, which often suffers from weather-related disruptions. He emphasized that strengthening all-weather connectivity is essential not only for the rapid movement of security forces but also for supporting the livelihoods of local residents. Upgrading this infrastructure remains a top priority to ensure the region remains accessible and secure.

The MP also sought federal intervention to include 12 left-out communities in the state on the Scheduled Tribe list. He argued that this inclusion is necessary to promote social justice and provide equitable opportunities for those populations. Furthermore, Subba raised the issue of legislative representation for the Limboo and Tamang communities, noting that the reservation of seats in the Sikkim Legislative Assembly for these groups remains unresolved.

Subba stated, "The move is essential to advancing social justice and ensuring equitable opportunities for the affected communities." Defence Minister Rajnath Singh acknowledged the concerns raised during the discussion and promised to give them due consideration. Subba expressed optimism that the central government remains dedicated to addressing Sikkim's developmental and constitutional requirements.
