Gangtok: President Droupadi Murmu officially launched a new public transport initiative in Sikkim designed specifically for female commuters. Known as the Pink City Runner, or the Aama Didi Bahini Bus Sewa, the service aims to provide a safe and affordable travel option across the region.

The inauguration ceremony featured the presence of Governor Om Prakash Mathur and Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang. These buses are reserved exclusively for women and feature a staff comprised entirely of female drivers and employees.

By improving reliable mobility, the state government hopes to encourage greater participation in employment, education, and social activities. The buses include modern amenities to prioritize passenger comfort, marking a key step in broader efforts to strengthen public transit and promote women empowerment through targeted infrastructure improvements.
