Gangtok: Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang has directed authorities to complete temporary road repairs in Lachen by July 15. The decision followed a high-level meeting at Samman Bhawan, where officials addressed persistent connectivity challenges impacting local residents.

The meeting included representatives from the Lachen Dzumsa, the Pipons, senior state officials, and members of the Army, including the 27 Mountain Division and BRO Project Swastik. Stakeholders discussed the immediate grievances of the community and evaluated potential long-term infrastructure improvements.

To find a permanent solution, the state government is establishing a committee to inspect the site and assess the feasibility of building a tunnel. Chief Minister Tamang emphasized that restoring reliable access is essential for local welfare, tourism, and national security interests.

Tamang confirmed that he has already reached out to the Prime Minister regarding the situation and intends to meet with the Defence Minister soon. He assured the Lachen community that the administration is treating the project as a top priority.
