Gangtok: Sikkim BJP officials met Union Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in New Delhi on Wednesday. They pushed for more federal money to build up the state's tourism industry. Party president D.R. Thapa led the group. They want to turn recent visitor spikes into lasting economic gains.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently visited the Himalayan state. That trip put the region in the spotlight. Visitor numbers are hitting record highs this season. The delegation told the minister that the sector provides jobs for many local residents. They need more infrastructure to handle the heavy foot traffic.
The BJP team asked the ministry to fund better facilities and promote new travel spots across the state. They also want long-term plans to keep growth sustainable. Shekhawat recognized the region’s potential during the talks. He said the government will back efforts to improve the area, noting he would provide “continued support for initiatives aimed at promoting tourism and improving tourism-related infrastructure in the state.”
