Shillong News Briefs: BJP Anniversary, KHADC Transparency Demands, and Youth Honors

Shillong: The BJP RR Colony Local Committee honored Dr. Syama Prasad Mookherjee on his 125th birth anniversary this week in Shillong. Party leaders gathered at the local office to discuss his role in Indian integration. Pynthorumkhrah MLA AL Hek attended the event. He noted that the people of West Bengal gave the party a mandate, stating: "The people of West Bengal paid a fitting tribute to Dr Mookherjee during his 125th birth year by electing a BJP government." Former MLA Dr. Jemino Mawthoh also took part in the proceedings.

Separately, the Hynniewtrep National Youth Front is challenging the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council over a firm called NESS Agency. The group says the council claims the firm is blacklisted, yet records show a valid trading license issued this past May. The council claims the matter is sub judice and withheld further proof. The HNYF wants the council to release all relevant files to the public.

Finally, North Shillong MLA Adelbert Nongrum honored four local youths for recent wins. The group included Miss Meghalaya Sanwaka Surong and academic standout Hebron C. Nongrum. Arm wrestler Graham Kharnarbi and student Naason R. Lyngkhoi also received prizes. The MLA handed out cash awards and tablets to recognize their achievements in sports and school.
