Shamator Officials Push for Better Welfare Access for Widows

Kohima: District Programme Officer Renchano Odyuo demanded better access to state support for widows in Shamator. She spoke at a local event marking International Widows Day on June 23. The gathering took place at the Cultural Hall. Organizers included the District Hub for Empowerment of Women and the Mission for Welfare Foundation.

Odyuo highlighted the need to shield widows from neglect. She wants to see them gain real economic power. The event centered on the theme, "Justice, Dignity and Economic Power for Widows." Officials used the platform to push specific government initiatives, including the National Social Assistance Programme and Mission Shakti.

Workers provided on-the-spot registration for the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana. They also helped attendees update Aadhaar cards and handed out sanitary supplies. Deputy Commissioner Arikumba attended as the special guest to show government support. The day included musical performances and prayers for the local widows.
