Itanagar: The Arunachal Express arrived in Delhi nearly 11 hours behind schedule on May 30 following severe thunderstorms that devastated railway infrastructure in Uttar Pradesh. Strong winds reaching 100 kmph damaged overhead electrical lines and utility poles along the Gorakhpur to Deoria section of the North Eastern Railway.

Railway officials reported that falling trees and snapped electrical lines halted movement between Chauri Chaura and Gauri Bazar stations. This damage triggered widespread disruptions for long distance travel, affecting more than 10 trains. Services including the Dadar Express, Krushak Express, and Godan Express faced significant delays, diversions, or cancellations.

Crews are working on an emergency basis to clear the tracks and repair the electrical infrastructure. Despite these efforts, some rail services to the Northeast remain subject to delays and route changes while restoration work continues.
