Agartala: Tripura Police booked senior IAS officer Abhishek Chandra and three others for allegedly swindling a Nagpur-based businessman out of more than Rs 14.55 crore. The case involves forged government contracts. Agartala's NCC Police Station registered the FIR on July 1.
Manish Malani, representing SK Sales Corporation, filed the complaint. He claims the group promised lucrative supply contracts. They leveraged fake tender documents from the Directorate of Higher Education to pull off the scheme. Between September 2024 and February 2025, the firm wired over Rs 14.55 crore as earnest money and payments.
The suspects include Utpal Kumar Chowdhury, Sudip Pal, and Krishna Chakraborty. They met company representatives in Tripura. They introduced fake officials and bankers to keep the lie alive. They used WhatsApp and RTGS transfers to build trust. One transaction was falsely labeled as a refund.
The firm grew suspicious. They verified the documents in April 2025. The Directorate of Higher Education never issued the tenders. The work orders were fabricated. "The complaint alleged that despite repeated assurances, neither the promised contracts nor refunds materialised," according to the FIR.
Chandra is a 2003-batch officer. He spent the last two years in compulsory waiting. Opposition leader Jitendra Chaudhury slammed the administration. He stated, "The case reflected deeper governance issues in the state." Police continue to investigate the charges of criminal conspiracy, cheating, and forgery.
